  2. Learning to take and make good pictures

    June 1, 2011 by eljay

This weekend hubs surprised me with a new camera! It wasn’t a total surprise, but I couldn’t believe we got it. It wasn’t until recently that I realized the huge difference between point and shoot pictures and GOOD cameras, like the D90. Having only had this camera for a couple of days now, I am already amazed by the quality of pictures it takes, even on Auto mode (which I am NOT using! don’t worry!). I also got some other tips from The Pioneer Woman and never use flash now. I never thought about whether or not to use it but I assumed it was never a bad thing. Check out her blog and especially the photography section.

Here are a few of my first shots. I haven’t started using Photoshop yet so these are the raw images. Many more to come!

  3. Thank you to our troops-past, present, future

    Eagle & Flag

I am so grateful for the men and women who put our freedom at the forefront of their lives. These folks have lives, families and friends just like I do but it’s easy to forget that when you hear about deployments, drive by a base or hear general news coverage about the places where our troops often spend years.

I am grateful for the news outlets that provide coverage of troops coming home, surprising their children at school, their wives at work and families waiting anxiously for their arrival. These moments are incredibly difficult for me to watch, but I refuse to turn the channel just because it’s hard. Lord knows I want to, and it’s embarrassing to feel the tears well up and often start running just moments into an image or clip, but I keep watching. While some of the tears of of happiness, some are also of sadness when families face grief. There isn’t much I feel I can do, but I can honor these moments by watching. I can help remember and say prayers for those serving and for their families.

I am forever grateful for the time our troops spend away from their families so that mine can be together. For the hours wives spend holding themselves together like they haven’t a care in the world, while they patiently wait for their spouse to return after days, months or years apart. For the sons and daughters who whose mommy or daddy weren’t there to see them off to the first day of kindergarten, see their first pitch, see them graduate or see them married. And for the men who aren’t home when their newborn babies are welcomed into the world they’re protecting.

Thank you not only to our troops, but to their wives, husbands, mothers, fathers and children. I am grateful everyday and think of you all and say a prayer everyday. You are loved like family.

  5. Ninja Sales Calls

    by eljay

I started the intimidating and scary world of cold calling on Monday.

To make things a little more interesting (and make myself feel better for continuously calling people), I’m coming up with fun names for various stages of the cold calling process.

The Ninja Call: those calls you make to a prospect after you’ve left them a message but haven’t heard back; when you don’t talk to anyone or leave a message.

    It’s the little things…
